We can never thank you enough for all the kindness, love, prayers, and generous support you have shown our family ever since our son, Evan, was first diagnosed with cancer in 2008. Since his passing in June 2010, you have stood by us as we honored his memory each year at Evanwalk and helped us raise over $70,000 for the Evan Hoffman Children’s Fund, an endowment that will continue to help sick children and their families for years to come.
Since the very first Evanwalk on May 1, 2011, the event has always been beautifully moving, spiritual, emotional and love-filled for all who have participated. This year, in marking Evan’s 18th birthday, our wish is to keep things simple and invite you to wear your favorite Evanwalk t-shirt and gather with us for our Messages to Heaven balloon release and a candlelit walk to celebrate Evan’s life and memory. If you can’t or don’t want to walk – bring a chair, come for a hug and enjoy a cupcake!
We are not requesting monetary donations or sponsorships for Evanwalk this year, but instead support for the local Basket of Hope organization. Basket of Hope’s mission is to give hope to children diagnosed with cancer or other serious illness through the delivery of baskets filled with toys, books, games, craft items, stuffed animals, movies, gift cards, and other items. While in the hospital, Evan was recipient of a basket and it brought a smile to his face during a very difficult time. If you would like to bring a small item (no food items, please) for Basket of Hope, we’ll take up a collection at Evanwalk and deliver those items to the local office. Donations to Evan’s Fund at Friends of St. John’s Hospital are always welcome, too.
A special thank you to all of our amazing volunteers and community sponsors, we could not have done it without you these past few years. We hope you’re able to join us.
